As a Director of UX Research you’ll shape and define Postman’s UX Research and usability testing program as a vital part of the product. You’ll work across research, design, and product teams as you grow a team of User Researchers, UX Researchers and Research Operations and Usability specialists. You’ll design and manage mixed methods of research and testing to ensure Postman is continually delivering highly usable, valuable, and accessible experiences. You’ll contribute to company growth and be a part of product decisions and strategy.  We’re looking for someone who fully understands how quantitative and qualitative data and insights improve interactions, who understand both tactical and strategic research and who enjoys growing and mentoring a talented team of strong and curious researchers in a fast-paced and rewarding role.  

What You'll Do

  • Create and execute a vision for measuring product through personas, key user journeys, JTBDs, analytics, mixed methods research and feedback channels 
  • Mentor, and manage a growing team of UX Researchers 
  • Become an expert of the Postman audience, personas, needs, and motivations 
  • Collaborate with leaders across design, content, development, engineering, success, and sales teams to optimize the entire user experience as it relates to the Postman product 
  • Organize, communicate, and maintain testing and research requests and schedule in a multi-team environment
  • Manage all aspects of UX Research including mixed methods research, documentation and reporting, outputs, reports and communications across teams and the organization
  • Work with leadership and individual teams to Identify the big questions that need longer term, strategic research
  • Determine when vendors and others are needed to supplement research expertise and manage these relationships and deliverables  
  • Continue to develop Research Operations into a trusted, scalable model for relationship management, program management, and research analytics   
  • Develop, organize and maintain a resource and distribution model for research insights including detailed findings, higher level findings, and when appropriate, UX recommendations
  • Based on research outcomes and findings, work with research, design, content and success teams to improve usability, overall experience, and efficiency
  • Continually evaluate and measure Postman feedback loops for research needs and higher level insights
  • Advise on test environments and models for research including early wireframe, prototype, beta environment, and sometimes production review
  • Be an advocate for UX Research internally at Postman and periodically present findings and the benefits and impact of early and ongoing research
  • Socialize and collaborate with multiple teams to share larger research findings
  • Thoughtfully develop and measure OKRs for Research and its impact for the product and overall benefit to Postman 

About You

  • 6+ years UX Research experience in mixed method research and guiding design and product teams on usability best practices and industry based standards 
  • 3+ years directly managing a UX Research team in a fast-paced, product based organization
  • Bachelors and/or Master’s Degree in the study of user experience, design, research or related fields such as information architecture, human factors/HCI, psychology, cognitive sciences OR alternative equivalent experience
  • A deep level of curiosity and tenacity for finding information and following insights into deeper and more valuable research
  • Some knowledge of APIs and the developer community and the ability and desire to continually grow this knowledge 
  • Experience in researching and testing products and transactional experiences, in rapid release cycle
  • Experience developing research goals and tracking UX Research measures to develop research maturity and product usability 
  • Self-direction, and ability to mentor and manage others in a fast-paced environment while maintaining principles of care, value, and inclusiveness as a manager
  • Ability to create a long term vision, while maintaining iterative success points  
  • Mature the Research function into a solid, capable, and valued practice empowered by an expert team 
  • Experience working and managing in a structured team environment 
  • Advanced experience in multiple and mixed methods of research including but not limited to surveys, polls, interjection and in-app surveys, interviews, and log file analysis, diaries, FTUX, and content and comprehension evaluations  
  • A portfolio showcasing comprehensive and thoughtful research experience
