What is the Postman Academy?

The Postman Academy is an on-demand learning platform to gain skills for working with APIs and Postman. Users can track their own learning progress, complete learning activities and revisit content they have already learned. The learning platform is hosted on Skilljar and can be accessed at https://academy.postman.com.

What information we collect from you

We collect data from users based on information explicitly provided by the user in the sign up form fields, as well as automatically collected data such as user progress through the lessons. Examples of data collected include but are not limited to:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Email
  • Institution (company or school)
  • Lesson progress
  • Time spent in lessons
  • Quiz responses
  • Feedback on courses

This information may be shared with an observer if you are receiving an invite to the platform through them (for example, a professor inviting their students) such that the observer can monitor the progress of the learners registered to their invite.

How we use information collected from you

The data collected from students and educators when they fill out our forms is used strictly for these purposes:

  1. Monitor program health internally at Postman
  2. Share progress with an observer (if invited through an observer, such as your university professor)
  3. Send transactional emails directly relating to requested services of the learning platform
  4. Discover areas to improve our learning content

How we protect information collected from you

Data from the platform is managed by the platform provider Skilljar, which is accessible internally at Postman. You can learn more about Skilljar's data privacy policy here.

Who we share your information with

Your privacy is important to us. We do not sell or share your data with any third-parties outside of the parties listed in the next section, unless a registrant has signed up or opted in to a monitoring group by invite from an observer (such as a university professor), in which case said observer is able to monitor their own learners' course progress and sign-up data.

Data shared with third parties

Your data may be shared with the following third parties:

Skilljar

All learning is managed in the Skilljar LMS platform. By signing up for an account to the Postman Academy, you agree to share your registration data and learning progress with Skilljar in line with Skilljar's Privacy Policy.

Badgr

Badgr is a digital accreditation service that allows users to prove they have earned various certifications.

Some learning paths in the Postman Academy offer the option to claim a public badge on the Badgr platform to prove you have completed a certification. If you chose to explicitly claim a badge after completing a course, the following data will be shared with Badgr:

  • Your email
  • Date of path completion
  • Which path you completed

You can review Badgr's Privacy Policy for more information. If you do not wish to share your data with Badgr, you can choose not to claim a badge upon completing your learning path by simply not clicking the "Claim badge" button.

Hotjar

Hotjar is a product experience insights tool that provides behavior analytics and feedback data to help understand customer usage.

By signing up for an account to the Postman Academy, you agree to share your data with Hotjar in line with Hotjar's Privacy Policy for their customers and Users, including the following:

  • Name, email address, and other similar personal data
  • Records of products or services purchased
  • Device details such as device's IP address, size, type, browser information
  • Geographical location (country only) and preferred language
  • Electronic network activity including interaction on Postman website and user session details

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a web analytics service that tracks and reports website traffic.

By signing up for an account to Postman Academy, you agree to share your data with Google Analytics in line with Google Analytics's Privacy Policy for their customers and Users, including but not limited to the following:

  • Device details such as brand, model, language, and browser
  • Time details such as year, month, date, and time of the site visit
  • Demographics such as the age range and gender of the user
  • Geographic details such as city, country, and continent from which user activity originated
  • Page/Screen (URL and details of the webpage visited)
  • Records of products or services purchased

How to access and control your information

You have the right to know what data the Postman Academy has collected and stored about you, including whether your account falls under the monitoring of an observer.

To access and/or request changes to your data, please email us at academy@postman.com with the subject line “Personal data request”.

We will review and respond within one week.

Our policy towards children

The services of this program are not directed to individuals under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to delete such information. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact academy@postman.com.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may change this privacy policy from time to time. We will post any privacy policy changes on this page. If the changes are significant, we will notify all participants by the emails provided to our system.
